A meeting of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) looking into the murder of journalist Aziz Memon has been convened to discuss his post-mortem report, which says he put up resistance before he was murdered.
The post-mortem report issued by forensic experts Rizwana Khanzada, Mohammad Hussain, Dr Ali Muhammad and Prof Muhammad Akbar found involvement of more than one person in Memon’s murder. The report says the journalist put up resistance before being murdered.
Commenting on the report, Hafeez Memon said it has been proven that his brother was killed.
The JIT meeting will be held at the office of the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Shaheed Benazirabad and team members would decide the future course of action in the light of the post-mortem report.
The JIT has also summoned former SHO of Mehrabpur area and others in the light of the video statement released by the journalist before his murder. The JIT has also summoned the victim’s brother.
On March 12, a local court ordered exhumation of the body of Aziz Memon on the request of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that was looking into the murder case.
The head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has sought permission from the court for exhumation of the journalist’s body on recommendation of senior doctors to do its post mortem again.
Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday visited Mehrabpur. The investigation team said it found many flaws in the previous post mortem report, which stated suffocation as cause of death but it did not mention details of Memon’s murder.
The investigation team said the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and other organisations have also demanded post mortem examination of the body again. The officials added that a local court in Nowshero Feroze gave written permission for exhumation of his body.
