A military officer of the first Pakistan Military Academy (PMA)’s Long Course Major Gen (retired) Azhar Ali Syed passed away at the age of 94, reported the 24NewsHd TV channel.
Azhar Ali, a batchmate of Nishan-e-Haider holder Maj Aziz Bhatti Shaheed commenced training at the PMA in January 1948 and was commissioned on 4 February 1950.
A large number of serving and retired military and civil officers as well as people from all walks of life participated in the funeral prayer of the deceased.
The first PMA Long Course consisted of 80 cadets and 62 officers were commissioned.
Pakistan Military Academy is an officer’s training center located at Kakul in the city and district of Abbottabad. It was established in October 1947. It is the sole service academy in Pakistan tasked with training cadets to serve as army officers. Cadets have to go through 2 years of rigorous military training to become an officer.
Major General (retd) Azhar Ali Syed has done outstanding work in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps.
Syed was one of the oldest retired officers of Pakistan Army.
He was laid to rest with full military honors at the Army Graveyard, Rawalpindi. He is survived by a widow and siblings.
