Eid Mubarak: Shawaal moon sighted in Pakistan

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee on Tuesday announced that the Shawwal moon was sighted and Eidul Fitr would fall on Wednesday (April 10).


The announcement came after a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee at the Federal Secretariat’s Kohsar Block in Islamabad.


Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad presided over while the committee members officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology attended it.


The meetings of zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees were held at their respective headquarters.


Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Maulana Azad said testimonies of moon sightings were received from majority of the country.


A number countries will celebrate Eidul Fitr on Wednesday (tomorrow) after the crescent was not sighted on Monday.


Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Australia are some other states are celebrating Eid tomorrow.

Also, zonal bodies also met to sight the Shawwal crescent.   The zonal committees will collect moon sighting testimonies from different parts.


In Sindh and Balochistan, Shawaal moon is reporteeldy sighted. However the announcemnt will be made by the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. 


According to the Met Office, the new moon was born last night at 11:21pm and its age would be between 19 and 20 hours in the evening.


The sky in southern areas of the country was expected to remain clear, and in the northern areas it could be cloudy, increasing chances of Shawwal crescent sightings today, it addded.
