A local court in Islamabad has granted a one-day physical remand of former federal information minister Fawad Chaudhry to the police in a fraud case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Fawad Ch was presented in the Civil Judge First Class Ghulam Mustafa's court on Sunday.
During the hearing, the Anti-Corruption Establishment sought a seven-day physical remand of Fawad Ch to recover Rs3.5 million from the accused.
The anti-corruption investigation team told the court that the accused, through his frontman – his cousin Faq Shiraz - paid a huge amount of money to get the NOC for a private housing society on Deena GT Road and clear the land. The amount is yet to be recovered.
Fawad’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told the court that his client was implicated in a fabricated and baseless fraud case as the housing society owners did not lodge any complaint against him. He pleaded with the court to either discharge or accept the bail application of the accused.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the civil judge granted a one-day physical remand of Fawad Ch and ordered the ACE to present the accused in the relevant court tomorrow (Monday).
The court announced the reserved decision.
