FIA arrests two suspects in hundi hawala and illegal currency exchange case

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Composite Circle Abbottabad has arrested two suspects involved in hundi hawala and illegal currency exchange activities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Saturday.


The arrests were made during a crackdown on the direction of Director Peshawar Zone Nisar Tanoli.


The FIA team raided Batgram Bazar and apprehended Abdul Wahab and Mir Salam, who were allegedly involved in transferring money through illegal channels and exchanging currency without a license.


The FIA recovered domestic and foreign currency worth lakhs from the suspects, including Rs1.2miillion, 620 Saudi riyals and 1000 Afghanis. The FIA also seized records related to their illegal transactions.


The suspects failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for the source and purpose of the recovered currency. The FIA registered cases against them under relevant laws and started further investigation.


A spokesperson for the FIA said that the agency was committed to curb the menace of hundi hawala and illegal currency exchange, which pose a threat to the national economy and security.
