JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman claims they had ended their sit-in in Islamabad on the assurance that Prime Minister Imran Khan would immediately resign and new elections would be held three months thereafter.

He did not reveal who exactly had given him the assurance, but he hinted that Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was aware of it.

“I urge Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to disclose the secret he is carrying as amanat [trust],” he told the media on Monday after meeting Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith chief Prof Sajid Mir.

The JUI-F had staged a 13-day sit-in, from Nov 1 to 13, 2019, in Islamabad which Fazl abruptly ended saying they would go for ‘Plan B’ that involved blocking of major roads across the country.

The Chaudhrys had held a number of meetings with the leadership of the religio-political party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, during the sit-in.

Fazl said he would think of inviting the Chaudhrys of Gujrat to his future public meetings (across the country) if they changed their position [by giving up support to the PTI government].

Soon after Fazl’s media talk, the PML-Q announced unflinching support to the PTI, after a meeting between the two coalition partners.

Fawad Ch's call

Federal Minister for Science and Technology later tweeted that Fazl has indirectly admitted that his sit-in was a conspiracy against the government and he called for trying the JUI-F chief under Article 6 for committing "treason".

"Today, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has bluntly admitted that his sit-in against the government was a conspiracy, which was [also] participated by many so-called democratic parties. This statement of Maulana is an act of open sedition for which he should be tried under Article 6."
