Weekly inflation declines amid price changes in key commodities

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported a 0.65 percent decrease in the weekly inflation rate, bringing the annual inflation figure down to 1.90 percent on Friday. 

The latest statistics reflect significant changes in the prices of essential commodities. 

The PBS report revealed that prices of 18 essential items increased during the week, while 10 items recorded a decrease, and 23 items remained stable. 

Among the declining prices, tomatoes experienced a notable drop of 31.40 percent per kilogram, potatoes fell by 10.36 percent, eggs decreased by 5.96 percent, and gram lentils (dal chana) saw a reduction of 1.64 percent. 

Other commodities such as onions, rice, and mash lentils were also among the items with reduced prices. 

Conversely, some commodities saw price hikes. Moong lentils became 2.56 percent more expensive, cooking oil (five-liter packs) rose by 1.56 percent, and sugar prices increased by 1.23 percent. 

Additional items that witnessed price surges included ghee, bread, garlic, and firewood.
