The US dollar started the last business day of the week on a negative note and was down 38 paisas in inter-bank rate during early trading, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.

By the time this report was being filed, the dollar was available for Rs166.20 against the previous day’s value of Rs166.58.

The rupee is regaining some of the lost ground against the dollar in recent days after the world’s most powerful currency crossed the Rs168 mark last month both in inter-bank rate and open market.

On June 5, the dollar had closed at Rs163.30 in the inter-bank rate but started an upward movement on June 8 (next business week), making an overall gain over Rs5 against the local currency in this series.

But the trend started reversing in the last week of June and the dollar has lost around Rs2 in value against the local currency since then.
