The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started consultations on joining the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) sit-in in Islamabad, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

The JI announced it is going to stage a sit-in on Friday against the government for increasing the prices of electricity and fuel prices in Pakistan.

According to sources, the party sought suggestions from central leaders and provincial committees on whether to join the sit-in or not.

The insider said the decision is expected tonight. Reports cited People have been making a litany of complaints about unprecedented hikes in energy prices. The opposition parties too planned their protest movement for what they called public relief.

The JI urged people from various walks of life to join it as, according to its chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the party would hold a historical sit-in on July 12 in Islamabad. He said the people have been forced to sell their precious belongings to pay the inflated bills.

Since coming into power after the February election, the coalition government has been under fire for its failure to provide the people with relief from price hikes.

The authorities claimed to have launched a comprehensive campaign to curb power pilferage but public relief is a far cry.
