Shaheen Afridi’s engagement celebrations: Brothers, cousins resort to festive fire

As the engagement of Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi with Pakistan’s former captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi’s daughter has been given a nod, the bowler's brothers and cousins could not stop them from celebrating the occasion.

The baby-faced left-arm fast bowler Afridi’s father had confirmed last Sunday that the family of Shahid Afridi has accepted their proposal and the fast bowler is set to marry Shahid Afridi’s daughter in two years’ time.

Confirming the news to the media, Shaheen’s father Ayyaz Khan Afridi said his family has a longstanding relationship with the family of Shahid Afridi and they had sought the hand of Shahid Afridi’s daughter with Shaheen and they had accepted their proposal. Ayyaz said the engagement ceremony will be held soon.

The news spread like jungle fire in Shaheen Shah Afridi’s town Landi Kotal. His friends and relatives distributed sweets and stage a fireworks show to celebrate the news.

While some wondered why the police have no taken the action for the aerial firing, many reminded the people that it was a Pashtun custom and they celebrate their events in this traditional way.
