MQM-P leaders to hold talks with Zardari, Shujaat in Islamabad today
March 10, 2022 11:14 AM
The importance of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), which has its seven members in the National Assembly (NA), has increased manifold in the wake of opposition parties’ no-trust motion against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government as both the opposition parties and the ruling party have started approaching the party leadership to win its support, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
In this connection, a delegation of the party, comprising Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Wasim Akhtar, Amir Khan and Kanwar Naveed Jameel, will head to Islamabad today to meet with former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), too, have contacted the MQM’s high command.
According to sources, the MQM team is expected to call on the PML-Q president in Islamabad at 11:00 am.
It is pertinent to mention here that the MQM-P is still to make up its mind on whether to support or oppose the no-confidence motion.
It was yesterday (Wednesday, March 9, 2022) that Prime Minister Imran Khan had met with the party leadership at Bahadurabad in Karachi in order to secure himself against the no-trust motion.
But, contrary to the claims made by the prime minister himself and PTI leaders that the talks were productive, the statements given by the MQM-P leaders after the meeting by no means gave any assurance that they were ready to vote against the motion.
PM Imran, on the other hand, was made to listen to a series of complaints by the MQM-P high command during the meeting, including against the closure of the party’s offices in Karachi and other Sindh cities.
