LeT leader Talha Saeed moves court to foil Indian resolution

March 10, 2023 08:13 PM

Hafiz Talha Saeed, son of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, seeking a court order for the foreign ministry to play its role to foil Indian move against him in the United Nations.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the petition contended that India submitted a resolution to the UN Security Council's Sanctions Committee.

“I have no criminal record of any kind,” Talha Saeed pleaded to the court.

The ministry of external affairs should play a role in rejecting the Indian resolution aiming at blacklisting him in the United Nations. Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner.

“India wants to add Hafiz Talha Saeed to the list of international terrorists,” he maintained in the petition adding that India is doing such actions to defame Pakistan.

LeT leader Hafiz Talha Saeed, 46, was declared a terrorist by the Indian government in April 2002r under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Later, India and US move to the Security Council to blacklist Talha Saeed.

However, the resolution was blocked by China on technical grounds.

The deadline for stopping the proposal on technical grounds is March 18, he hinted, adding that the court should order the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to play a role at the diplomatic level before March 18.

The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court again sent the matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is learned that China placed a hold on the proposal to add Hafiz Talha Saeed under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council.

It is the fifth time in less than five months last year that Beijing put a hold on the bid submitted by India and the US to designate a Pakistan-based terrorist as a global terrorist.

India's Home Ministry said that Hafiz Talha Saeed has been actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, and planning and executing attacks by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan.

He has also been actively visiting various LeT centers across Pakistan, and during his sermons propagating for jihad against India, Israel, the United States of America and Indian interests in other western countries.
