At least 11 people drowned when a van plunged into a canal in Mian Channu after the driver lost control on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

All the van passengers belonged to Tehsil Kobara Chak 320 of district Sheikhupura. The victims were coming back after attending a funeral in Layyah.

Rescue 1122 Emergency Officer Dr Ejaz Anjum told 24NewsHD TV channel that 10 dead bodies have been recovered and search for the last one was going on. He vowed to continue the operation till the last body is found from the canal.

Police said that the victims are all relatives and the dead included six women, three children and two men.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the van driver lost control of the vehicle after hitting a motorcycle.

Moreover, rescue teams have shifted the dead bodies to a hospital for completing legal formalities.
