ECP notifies PPP’s Mandokhel as the winner in NA-249 by-polls

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday issued notification of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Abdul Qadir Khan Mandokhail as a winner in NA-249 Karachi by-elections, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

The ECP notification issued on Sunday read, “In pursuance of the provision of sub-section () of Section 98 of the Elections Act, 2017, […..] the Election Commission of Pakistan hereby publishes the name of the candidate returned to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a result of the by-election held on 29.04.2021 from the under mentioned constituency”.

Recounting of votes in the NA-249 constituency in Karachi was completed by the ECP yesterday (Saturday), three days after the vote recount process began.

On completion of the vote recount, the ECP declared Abdul Qadir Khan Mandokhail of the PPP winner of the by-election in the Karachi constituency by 909 votes.

He secured 15,473 votes after the recount. Earlier, he had secured 16, 156 votes. Mandokhail’s 500 votes were rejected by the ECP staff as invalid.

 On the other hand, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Miftah Ismail bagged only 14,747 votes and remained runner-up in the contest. Earlier, he had obtained 15,473 votes. At least 726 votes cast in favour of Miftah were declared invalid.

Interestingly, PPP Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani as per his promise sent sweets to the home of the defeated candidate of PML-N Miftah Ismail on Sunday and also released its video on tweeter.
