A plan by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to stage a protest rally at a park in Islamabad on Thursday failed after a heavy contingent of police was deployed there, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The protest rally was planned to mark the first anniversary of May 9 but the PTI workers could not reach the venue in F9 Park despite party’s call.
On the other hand, the police have deployed tight security measures at the park backed by armoured personnel carrier (APC) and several prisoner vans.
Earlier in the day, making it clear that it will not allow the PTI to either hold a rally or a protest demonstration on the first anniversary of the May 9 tragedy, the Islamabad Police have sealed all the routes leading to the city’s Red Zone.
The police have said that no person will be allowed inside the zone today and that those taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with an iron hand.
On the other hand, sources have told 24News that the PTI plans to hold protest demonstrations in all three constituencies of the federal capital at 4:00 PM today.
They have disclosed that the police raided the party’s Islamabad President Amir Mughal’s home last night.
