Govt splits NTDC into three companies to bolster reforms in power sector

Energy Minister Awais Khan Leghari has said after the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Cabinet, Energy Ministry has decided to split NTDC (National Transmission & Despatch Company) into three different companies with specific tasks, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press briefing in Islamabad, Federal Minister said that NTDC has been split into Independent Market Operator, National Grid Company and EIDMC.

He said Independent Market Operator will look into market sale and purchase. Energy Infrastructure and Development Managements Company (EIDMC) will look into the timely delivery of power projects and will work to end flaws in distribution system.

He said NTDC officials were involved in power theft. Awais Khan Leghari NTDC was behind the hurdles and challenges in power sector. He said NTDC promoted inefficacy, failed to curb caused corruption and undue delay in various projects. He said due to NTDC, the power projects which were schedule to complete in 2024 were delayed till 2025. He said due to NTDC, a power project which was schedule to complete in 2016  got delayed and completed in 2020. He said due to prolonged delay the costs of under construction power projects jumped up and masses paid the price of NTDC’s laziness. He claimed that it was due to inefficiency of NDTC, the cheap power projects remained closed while costly projects were launched.

To a question about IPPS, he said agreements with 18 more IPPs power planst are being revised. He said soon government will look into wind and solar IPPs and later the government will look into government’s own projects. He said government was completing its promises. He said the government steps will boost transparency and reforms in energy sectors.

He said the government has controlled power theft. Awais Khan Leghari said the government will bring more cut in power prices.
