Enraged kin of patient died of dengue turn hospital into combat zone

The Mayo Hospital, Lahore has become a battlefield as an only brother of five sisters died of dengue Saturday night and his relatives created a scene at the hospital emergency ward, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Reportedly, 26-year-old Zubair, resident of Sherakot, Gulshan Ravi was brought to the hospital in critical condition. But soon after his arrival at the hospital, he succumbed to the disease and breathed his last.

The enraged relatives of the deceased turned the dengue ward of the hospital into combat zone. They started torturing the hospital administration and nurses.

The administration called the police force to control the situation.

The relatives alleged that Zubair died due to bad medical treatment provided to the lone brother of five sisters.

On the other hand, Mayo Hospital MS Dr Iftikhar said that the patient was brought to the hospital in critical condition. He stated that his family first treated him at home, when his condition worsened they brought him to the hospital. The number of his platelets were less than 10,000. He informed that hospital administration put him on the ventilator but he could not survive.

The dengue epidemic has started spreading so fast in Lahore. About 98% dengue beds have been occupied in 10 big hospitals of the city. Whereas dengue beds in Junnah, Services, Mayo, Sir Ganga Ram and Nawaz Sharif hospitals have become unavailable.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the dengue onslaught is continued with full force. During past 24 hours, 204 people contracted dengue virus.

According to the KP health department, the total number of dengue patients in the province has reached 2,660. Four people have died of dengue so far.

The provincial capital Peshawar, Noshera, and Buner have been declared high risk districts, the health department said.
