PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto has said that timeline is not an issue for the government for the proposed amendments, he hoped that the constitutional amendment will be passed before October 25, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad, Bilawal said for PPP there was no deadline for the passage of the amendments. He claimed that PPP wanted to take all political parties including JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on board about the proposed amendments.
The former foreign minister said that the government has the option of taking conscience vote from the opposition MNAs. Bilawal Bhutto said despite this, PPP aimed at creating consensus on the amendments.
He said PPP wants to take all political parties on board, adding that “once draft of JUI-F comes, then we will sit and see, after the discussion, which amendments can be brought.
Bilawal said “there must have been serious talk if there were five top political leaders sitting together in the President's House”. Talking about judiciary, PPP leader said “the orders of the courts came on a holiday, which even the Chief Justice was not aware of.” He said, “We want judicial reforms and equal rights for provinces”.
He said Maulana Fazl had given consent on Constitutional courts and judicial reforms but the government wanted to amend Article 8 and 51 of the Constitution, which was refused by PPP and JUI-F leadership simultaneously.
Bilawal said, “PPP gave every opportunity to Imran Khan and his party but they showed indifference. If Imran Khan had taken political decisions from April 2022, he would have been the Prime Minister again today. Even today, Imran wants to talk to the establishment, not the politicians.”
Bilawal Bhutto said, “We formed a committee for political consensus, PTI also boycotted it.” He said, “We don't care who comes as Chief Justice but the behavior of Iftikhar Chaudhry will not be accepted”.
Bilawal Bhutto said, “We want constitutional courts to be established in the provinces as well, this will give immediate relief to the people.” He added, “appointments in high courts should be made through proportional representation of judiciary, parliament and lawyers.” Bilawal Bhutto said as long as there is NAB, political engineering will continue in the country.
