The Ministry of Finance has clarified that the two Chinese engineers who tragically lost their lives in the recent Karachi explosion were not involved in ongoing negotiations related to Independent Power Producers (IPP) between Pakistan and China.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Finance Ministry emphasised that these engineers had already completed their duties at power plants before the incident.
In response to rumours, the Finance Ministry asserted that the idea that the deceased engineers were part of the IPP negotiations is entirely false.
The Pakistani government continues to hold discussions with China regarding IPPs, but these engineers were not part of those talks.
The tragic event has raised concerns, but the Ministry of Finance reassured the public that the negotiations between Pakistan and China regarding the power sector are still ongoing.
The Finance Ministry said in the clarification, “The government has been negotiating with IPPs, including the power plant for which both the Chinese engineers worked. However, the deceased engineers were not involved in the IPP talks. Any impression created to this effect by media reports is misleading and has no basis”.
