In view of the tense situation in Khyber, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the federal government’s decision not to allow the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) to hold a jirga, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has convened an important meeting of members of the government and the opposition in the KP Assembly today at which Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi will represent the Center, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The decision was taken at an important sitting of members of the government and the opposition, which was held in Peshawar with CM Gandapur in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister, while referring to a resolution passed by the provincial assembly, said that members of the government as well as of the opposition had jointly constituted a committee to discuss the situation, arising out of the ban imposed by the government on the PTM and upcoming Jirga to be held by the banned group in Khyber. “All committee members reposed their trust in me and tasked me with holding negotiations with the federal government in order to ensure that the event (Jirga) passed off peacefully,” he said, and added, “It is our responsibility to make sure that the lives and properties of the people of the KP are protected because they all, including the PTM, are our own people.”
CM Gandapur thanked the ruling as well as all opposition parties for cooperating with him. “I contacted the interior minister to inform him of the development and he was also pleased to learn that the assembly members had taken a united stance.”
“The minister will also attend the meeting,” he informed.
