China is working on economic projects worldwide, but its fraternal relations with Pakistan are unique, particularly in energy, construction, hotels, tourism, industry, textiles, and infrastructure development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
China is undertaking public interest projects in Pakistan with government support, building advanced technology and infrastructure while improving living standards through skills and employment opportunities. In Lahore, notable projects include the Orange Line Metro Train and Textile Production Unit Challenge Apparel, providing employment and enhancing infrastructure and quality of life.
Recently, Orange Line Metro Rail Transit System Company hosted a media open day, where a delegation visited the Orange Line Train Depot Dera Gujran on October 4. DGM, C&M Orange Line Mr. Lething and Executive C&M Taha Khan Azizi briefed media representatives on the project's completion and goals. A documentary showcased how the Orange Line Metro Train will digitize Lahore's transport system, offering affordable and quality travel facilities.
The Orange Line Metro Train is a shining example of Pakistan and China's strong partnership under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), said Mr. Tan Zidong. During a ceremony hosted by Orange Line Metro Rail Transit System Company to celebrate the train's 200 million passenger milestone, Chinese Ambassador Mr. Jiang Zaidong noted that this project represents not only advanced infrastructure but also a bridge of friendship between the two nations, fostering mutual cooperation and understanding.
Challenge Apparel officials briefed media representatives on the company's contributions to Pakistan's textile industry. Challenge Group, a subsidiary of Shanghai's Yuanyi Industry Group, boasts over 25 years of expertise, fueling its growth. Notably, Challenge Apparel has exported $300 million worth of goods from Pakistan in five years. The forthcoming Challenge Special Economic Zone in Kasur will generate 20,000 jobs and boost production and exports, targeting a $400 million annual increase within 2-3 years.
According to the briefing, Challenge Group has successfully partnered with top international brands – including Adidas, American Eagle, Reebok, and Supernatural – for over seven years. The establishment of the Challenge Special Economic Zone is expected to draw additional world-renowned brands, further expanding the group's global reach. By integrating innovative capabilities and technical expertise from its Shanghai and Hubei branches, Challenge Fashion has become Pakistan's leading supplier of high-quality textile products and a significant force in the global market.
Mr. William Wang, Deputy General Manager of Supply Chain at Challenge Apparel, stated, "Challenge Fashion offers international-standard facilities and an exceptional work environment." He highlighted that over 2,000 local individuals are employed in their production unit, where they receive skills training alongside employment opportunities. Sharing his personal experience, Mr. Wang, who has spent seven years in Pakistan, primarily in Lahore, praised the country's beauty, friendly people, and delicious cuisine.
