Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry Friday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has become headquarters of the opposition, reported 24News HD TV channel.
Speaking during a press conference in Islamabad flanked by Minister for Railways Azam Swati and Adviser to the Prime Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan, Fawad Chaudhry said that no one was satisfied with the ECP because it had come up up with strange logic.
The minister used harsh words against the chief election commissioner and expressed no confidence in him. He said the commission had become headquarters of the opposition, adding that the chief election commissioner was becoming a mouthpiece of the opposition. He termed the ECP's attitude political and stupid.
PM Advisor for Parliamentary Affairs of Pakistan Dr Babar Awan termed the opposition as an enemy of electoral reforms. He said that they would pass all the bills in the upcoming joint session of the parliament.
Federal Minister Azam Swati also leveled serious allegations against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of taking bribes. During the session of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Swati criticized the commission for making fun of the parliament.
Reacting to the statement of Azam Swati, the ECP officials walked out of the meeting in protest.
Reacting to the statements of the federal minister, the opposition parties expressed concerns over accusing ECP of taking bribes.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif lashed out at the government ministers saying that they have no proper argument regarding the electronic voting machines. PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz said that government representatives threatened the national institutions.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also expressed its reservation over accusation against the election commission. PPP leader Sherry Rehman said that the government was not ready to accept 37 objections and wanted to exercise its full will in the elections.
