The seat of Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly (PA) is still lying vacant since Hamza Shehbaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has not been notified as the opposition leader as yet, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Sources in the PML-N told 24News that despite the fact that the party had sent the name of Hamza to the PA secretariat around three weeks ago as its nominee for the seat, the PA speaker was yet to issue a notification in this regard.
So much so that the assembly’s sessions are being held without the leader of the opposition.
Sources also disclosed that the former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan was the stumbling block in Hamza’s appointment as the opposition leader as he was bitterly opposed to it.
So much so that now the PML-N too had decided to remain tightlipped on the issue, they added.
