French Olympic diver Alexis Jandard will take part in a ceremonial kick-off at a football game this weekend, just days after unwittingly becoming a social media sensation when he embarrassingly slipped and bounced off a diving board in front of President Emmanuel Macron.

Jandard will symbolically start the game between his boyhood club Lyon and Brest in the French top flight on Sunday.

The 26-year-old won praise on social media for mocking his misfortune during the inauguration of the aquatics center for the Paris Games rather than silently retreating into a corner.

"A little message to say that you've probably seen my face on social media recently but I have a big announcement," Jandard said on Lyon's social media platforms.

"I have the honor and the immense pride, as a Lyon supporter since forever to do the ceremonial kick-off of Sunday's match.

"There needs to be noise, I want to hear everyone, especially the players, no bad slip-ups!" he added.
