Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz has said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was the only legal institution in the country that has the legal right to approve or reject the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was talking to media persons outside the parliament house on Wednesday.
Shibli Faraz said that parliament was the highest institution in the country and legislators were the direct victims or beneficiaries of the electoral system. “We bring the EVMs to the parliament where members could have an idea about the voting machine. This exercise is for the MNAs,” he added.
“We are coordinating with the ECP. Insha’Allah before or after Muharram, there will be a meeting with the ECP officials,” he added.
Shibli Faraz said that three percent of votes are usually wasted in polls comprising 1.8 million votes approximately. “When polling process will be through EVMs, then no vote will be wasted,” the minister said.
