Warning the senior government functionaries of contempt proceedings, the Sindh High Court on Friday ordered them to implement the earlier directions about promoting over 10,000 professors and lectures by December 18, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Hearing the matter, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar issued contempt of court notices to the chief secretary, secretary colleges and additional secretary colleges, directing them to appear in person on next hearing in their personal capacity.

The judge warned that the contempt of court proceedings would be launched if the college teaching staff were not promoted by that time.

He added that the court wanted to give some time but the government’s attitude wasn’t appropriate. The officials would be charged for contempt of court after framing charges, observed Justice Mazhar.

“A simple thing is not being understood that promotions must have to be given,” he remarked and added that why a person would perform if he knew that he was not going to get promotion.

The court also mentioned that the people were given neither promotion nor time scale (promotion) even after working for 30 years.

It was also observed that the secretary colleges had promised in a statement that everyone would get a promotion and time scale (promotion).

“Don’t you think the working in departments is affected due to such issues?” the court asked and remarked that the Sindh government’s departments’ seemingly were not interested in performing.

In his arguments, the counsel for the petitioners said the officials had no intention of executing the court orders and cited the example of the secretary colleges releasing an ambiguous press on the subject.
