Taking notice of the discrepancy between the court’s decision on lifetime ineligibility of members of the parliament (MPs) and amendment to the Election Act made by the parliament in this regard, the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday issued notices to the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) and advocate generals (AGs) of all the four provinces, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The apex court also sent the matter to a committee of judges to decide whether to constitute a larger bench to determine the period of ineligibility.

The court said it would take up the case for the hearing in January 2024 and made it clear that it was by no means an attempt on its part to delay the elections.

The SC said that the notice for the case would be published in two English dailies.

The court took notice in the lifetime disqualification of Mir Badshah Qaiserani.
