Japan announces $3.1m grant for Pakistan’s polio eradication programme

Japan has announced $3.1 million grant for Pakistan’s polio eradication programme, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
In this regard, government of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) signed the agreement in Islamabad.
According to National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), polio vaccine will be purchased with $3.1 million grant and such grant to be used in polio campaigns in 2025.
Not less than 59 polio cases have been reported in Pakistan so far this year, National EOC said.
In this regard, Prime Minister’s focal person for polio eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq said that Japan’s continued support for polio eradication is valuable and with Japan’s continued support, we are further strengthening our efforts.
Ayesha Raza Farooq said we are committed to reduce polio cases to zero by mid-2025.
