Ghotki police conducted a raid on a vehicle allegedly transporting "dowry" and seized a cache of advanced weaponry intended for dacoit groups in the Katcha area. Two suspects, including a woman, were arrested, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sukkur revealed that the arms, smuggled from Afghanistan, were meant for criminal gangs operating in Kacha.
The DIG told the media that the seized weapons, capable of destroying army tanks and armoured vehicles, highlight the sophistication of the smuggling operation.
“This timely action has thwarted a planned attack on police stations and outposts in Katcha,” said the DIG. He added that the swift intervention prevented a significant tragedy.
The suspects, identified as Muhammad Sohail from Khushab and Qurat-ul-Ain from Chiniot, are now in custody, and further investigations are underway.
Previous operation:
On August 21, 2024, in Daharki, police arrested an arms smuggler named Khalid, who was supplying weapons to Kacha dacoits' gangs.
Khalid was caught with a significant stockpile of arms sourced from the black market in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
These consistent operations underscore law enforcement’s commitment to disrupting the arms supply chain of Katcha’s criminal networks.
