Informing that formal investigation into the deaths of scores of people out in extreme cold in Murree had been launched, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday assured that there would be indiscriminate action against those found responsible for the tragedy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“Whosoever found guilty in the light of the inquiry report will be proceeded against as per law,” he vowed.
He said everybody was in tears over the loss of lives in the incident.
CM Buzdar further said short and long-term planning was being done to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. “In this regard, the standard operating procedures are also being reviewed,” he said.
At least 22 tourists, including women and children, shivered to death last Friday night (January 8, 2022) while they were on their way to Murree, a hill resort in north Punjab, as Pak Army, Frontier Corps and Rangers personnel were called in to assist the local administration in relief and rescue activities.
Later, as the search for the survivors began, the death toll went up further.
