A scam of the National Assembly (NA) officers has been unearthed on Wednesday in which many 'Babus' are involved in the illegal use of government vehicles and monetization allowance.
The 24News HD TV channel received the details of officers using 1000cc to 1500cc government vehicles illegally.
According to the report, a mandatory monetization policy was implemented with cabinet approval on 1 January 2012 to achieve cost savings and prevent potential misuse of government vehicles.
Many officers took the advantage of the monetization policy and drew cash in exchange for not using the government vehicle but in fact, they are violating the rules by using government vehicles illegally.
Under the mandatory monetization policy, grade 22 officers are getting Rs95910, Grade 21 officers Rs77430, and Grade 20 officers Rs 65,960.
The channel report said NA Secretary Tahir Hussain, Additional Secretary Chaudhry Mubarak, and Joint Secretary Hasan Bukhari are among those who use the official vehicle.
Director General International Relations Waseem Iqbal, Director General CPEC Committee Saeed Maitla, Director Protocol Humayun Malik, and Staff Officer to the Speaker are also included in the list of officers using vehicles.
Interestingly, Director General International Relations Waseem Iqbal is using at least seven vehicles while NA Secretary also has two official vehicles in use.
The sources disclosed that NA Secretary Tahir Hussain is using two vehicles too, one for personal and the other for household use.
National Assembly’s Director General Media verified the use of government vehicles by the officers and said under the DG protocol, official vehicles are used for protocol at the airport of the parliamentarians.
He said the protocol vehicles are used at embassies for visas and passports of the parliamentarians too while NA Secretary and Additional Secretary use official vehicles after paying cash.
The DG Media said Joint Secretary Admin has a vehicle used for purchasing the necessary items for assembly use from the market.
