Different sections of the motorway have been closed due to dense fog in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Upper Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The motorway sections that have been closed include M 11 from Lahore to Sialkot, M 2 from Kot Momin to Pindi Bhatian, M 3 from Faiz Pur to Dur Khana, and M 11 from Kamoke Narowal Interchange to Sambrial toll plaza.

Motorway M5 has also been closed from Uch Sharif to Zahir Pir and from Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri. Likewise, the M4 has been closed from Shor Kot to Faisalabad and the M14 from Hakla to Yarik, and Isakhel to Mianwali.

The duration of fog on the national highways has increased with the cold weather, reducing visibility to less than 50 meters in some areas.

The Motorway Police advised the road users to prefer to travel during the maximum hours of the day when the fog is less likely to occur.

They also urged the drivers to use fog lights, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and follow the traffic rules.

The Motorway Police spokesman Syed Imran Ahmad said that the motorway had to be closed to ensure the safety of motorists.

He advised people to avoid traveling unnecessarily and if it was really necessary, travel during the daytime.

The spokesman also counseled people to drive at a slow pace, turn their fog lights on, and keep their distance while traveling.

He said that before starting their journey, motorists could dial helpline number 130 for information.

“Apart from that, they can also get information by logging on to the National Highways and Motorway Police’s official social media account.
