Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi officially confirmed that the general elections are set to proceed as scheduled on February 8th.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, He talked to the media in Islamabad on Wednesday and emphasized that the election campaign activities by political parties are expected to gain momentum following the release of revised lists of candidates.
Solangi assured the public that despite any challenges, elections have been successfully conducted in the past, even under adverse circumstances.
He expressed confidence that the current situation is considerably better than before, ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Addressing the involvement of foreign media in the election coverage, Solangi said that both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Election Commission of Pakistan would provide relevant information regarding the arrival and participation of foreign media outlets.
Responding to concerns about the recent internet disruption in the country, Minister Solangi clarified that the issue was purely technical and unrelated to political interference.
He sought to assure the public that the electoral process remains unaffected by the recent internet disorder.
He expressed the optimism that security situation in the country would further improve in the coming days. He said that Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ECP would provide information regarding the foreign media teams’ arrival in Pakistan for election coverage.
To a question, he said that election activities would hopefully pick the momentum after the announcement of the candidates of the political parties as all parties were commencing their election campaigns now.
On January 15, the Muslim League (N) had also announced a rally, he said and added election activities would further accelerate in days ahead.
The minister said that the portfolio of the Ministry of Interior was held by the Prime Minister. He said that under the Rules of Business, when there was no minister nominated for a Ministry, its portfolio would be with the prime minister.
