Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed support for phone tapping in the current Pakistani context, stating that it is necessary in the fight against terrorism.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the defence minister rejected the objection of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders including Omar Ayub Khan regarding the phone tapping issue.
The defence minister addressed objections raised by opposition leaders and reminded them that the founder of PTI [Imran Khan] had also supported phone tapping, saying that his own phones were tapped and it was necessary.
Khawaja Asif pointed out that at that time, the founder of PTI had a favourable relationship with the establishment, and everything seemed acceptable to him.
And now, his followers find the same actions hateful and are spewing venom against them, the defence minister said.
