The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday issued an alert following the Met Office predicted torrential rains in most districts of Punjab until July 15, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Irfan Ali Kathia, PDMA DG, directed the district administrations to take measures to prevent any untoward incident during the heavy rains.

He said that rains could result in flooding in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot and Rawalpindi. “However, the flow of water in all major rivers of the province namely Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh is presently normal,” Kathia informed.

He also urged the people to stay away from electricity poles and wires during the rains.

He said that the PDMA’s Control Room was monitoring the situation round the clock.

He asked the people to dial the Authority’s helpline number 1129 number in case of an emergency.

Showers, strong winds, predicted for several parts of country

The weather department had on Wednesday said that different parts of the country, including the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, would be pounded by heavy rains and strong winds until July 15.

The department had said that although the weather would remain hot and humid in most areas of the country, rains would lash Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central Punjab, southern parts of Balochistan and south-east Sindh from July 10 to July 15 as strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea would enter the country’s upper areas.
