Punjab Governor and Chancellor KEMU Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman Saturday visited King Edward Medical University, Lahore.
During his visit, he inaugurated Girls Hostel (Fatima Block) and also planted a tree there.
He also witnessed the working of Telemedicine Department established at KEMU. During his visit Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Prof Saira Afzal and Prof Nazish Imran informed the Punjab Governor that since its inception in March 2020, the Telemedicine Deptt is serving to the ailing humanity through tele consultation and more than eighteen thousand patients have been treated within the country and abroad.
Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, in his welcome address during the meeting of Chancellor with the members of KEMU Academic Council, highlighted the achievements of KEMU in imparting the knowledge to the MBBS undergraduate students and uplifting the quality of research among n postgraduate students, infrastructural development and high standard service delivery to the patients at its seven attached teaching hospitals in Lahore, the Mayo Hospital being the biggest in all of them.
The Vice Chancellor also requested Chancellor to patronize the University for the completion of New Campus Project of KEMU at Muridke Narowal Road, which is situated at junction of four districts i.e Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Narowal and Sialkot.
Provincial Minister and Pro Chancellor KEMU Khawaja Salman Rafiq ensured that the Punjab Govt will extend full support to the university for the completion of its ongoing educational and infrastructural development projects.
He said that the Department of Telemedicine at King Edward Medical University has rendered unparalleled service to the patients. He added that KEMU has always been at the forefront in service delivery to the humanity.
Addressing the Academic Council, Chancellor KEMU said that revolutionary measures were needed to promote higher education in the country. The teachers should pay special attention to education as well as character building and professional training of the youth. King Edward Medical University is one the oldest and prestigious medical institution of Sub continent. The problems related to the universities will be solved on priority basis.
He appreciated the Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid M Gondal and the faculty members of KEMU for uplifting the standard of medical education and quality service delivery to patients.
The Vice Chancellor presened commemorative shields to the Governor of Punjab and the Provincial Health Minister.
