Two policemen were killed by unidentified assailants near Sohrab Goth in Karachi on Saturday, reported the 24newsHd TV channel.
According to the officials, the policemen were identified as Rehmat and Hakeem. The policemen were on routine patrol when unidentified men opened fire and killed them.
The police said that both cops went to check suspicious men who were sitting in a playground but the unidentified assailants seeing them opened fire at the police personnel, killing them on the spot.
A heavy number of police and ranger officials have reached the spot of the incident.
Reportedly the suspects have taken the weapons of the police personnel too, police officials added. The police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh while talking to the media confirmed that a tragic incident took place in which two officials were martyred.
These young men are on patrolling duty. Based on basic information, these officials have entered the area. One cop was shot in the head and the other was shot in the arm and chest, he added.
Both policemen were martyred on the spot, and some witnesses have been found from whom information is being sought.
He said that the area is sensitive and the police conduct routine patrolling. The incident is being investigated from various aspects, he added.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his anguish and grief over the sad demise of two policemen. He also sought a report from IG Sindh about the incident.
