Rescue operation to recover bodies from DG Khan canal restarts

The rescue operation to fish out dead bodies of devotees from DG Khan canal near Cantt Bridge restarted on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

On Friday, a tractor-trolley carrying devotees to the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar popularly known as Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar had fallen into DG Khan Canal near Basti Ahmad Shahani. 

The bodies of 17 people are yet to be recovered. The local authorities also stopped the water inflow into the canal. 

Only five dead bodies have been recovered so far. 

The tractor-trolley was carrying 30 to 35 devotees to Sakhi Sarwar shrine.

Eight people had been rescued alive while 25 were still missing till filing.

On information, teams of the Pakistan Army also reached the spot with heavy machinery to take part in the rescue operation.
