The Counter-Terrorism Department has arrested five terrorists including an important commander of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan during Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) conducted in different areas of Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the spokesperson, the CTD teams carried out 179 IBOs in various cities of Punjab including Pakpattan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal.
During its operations, the CTD Punjab arrested five terrorists including a key commander of the proscribed TTP identified as Nadeem. Other terrorists were identified as Shahbaz, Khalid, Madni, and Salman Saeed, the spokesperson added.
The CTD officials recovered explosive material, five detonators, two hand grenades, two IED bombs, arms, and cash from their possession.
The spokesperson said that the captured terrorists were planning to attack important installations in the country.
He said that 82 suspects were arrested during 769 combing operations in the current week and as many as 31,250 people were interrogated.
He said that the provincial CTD is pursuing the goal of Safe Punjab and is determined to root out the scourge of terrorism.
