Sri Lanka tightened the screws on New Zealand by skittling out the visitors for a meagre 108 runs in 19.3 overs in the second Twenty20 at Dambulla on Sunday.

New Zealand’s innings went off the rails from the start.

Opener Tim Robinson was bamboozled first ball by a yorker from Nuwan Thushara that swung in late, cleaning him up in style.

Thushara was on the money again in his next over, duping Mark Chapman with a slower delivery, which the left-hander could only chip tamely to the covers.

The spotlight, however, soon shifted to Wanindu Hasaranga, who ran riot through New Zealand's middle order, leaving them reeling at 52-6.

Hasaranga struck gold twice in his first, bowling Glenn Phillips with a googly and Michael Bracewell with a leg-break.

Despite a nagging history of hamstring injuries, Hasaranga soldiered on, finishing with impressive figures of 4-17.

Hasaranga wasn't Sri Lanka's only injury concern.

Wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis had to retire after taking a brutal delivery from Matheesha Pathirana on the knee, and Kusal Perera took over the gloves.

With New Zealand's top and middle order in tatters, Matheesha Pathirana was called upon to mop up the tail.

Pathirana proved more than up to the task, bagging three wickets and conceding just 11 runs in his four-over spell, which even included a maiden.

Sri Lanka had won the first game on Saturday by four wickets.
