The Religious Affairs Ministry has geared up dowry ban drive, it is learnt.

Involving all the stakeholders, suggestions and proposals are being mulled over. According to sources, the relatives of groom won’t be allowed to raise the demand for dowry and put it on display before Nikkah.

But the sources said basic needs would be met in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Bedsheets and a few dresses are being suggested for the bride-to-be and in case of divorce, the in-laws will be bound to return the gifts to the woman.

The sources said amendments to dowry prohibition act-1976 are being brought to curb the curse. Cost of dowry must not exceed the price of four-tola gold. Council for Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Qibla Ayyaz has violators will face the music.
