Dengue epidemic is spreading its tentacles in Islamabad as 78 new cases of dengue were reported in the federal capital during the last 24 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the health department, five persons have died of dengue so far in Islamabad and 1,229 cases have been reported. In rural areas of the federal capital, 817 people contracted dengue while in urban areas, 412 were diagnosed with dengue virus.
On the instructions of provincial Secretary Health Imran Sikandar Baloch, the anti-dengue campaign was going on in full swing in Punjab. The administration has expedited its efforts to destroy dengue larvae.
Mr Baloch said that during the past 24 hours, 169 dengue patients were reported in Punjab. From Lahore, 124; from Rawalpindi 26; Sargodha 3; Multan, Khanewal, Gujranwala, Layyah, and Vehari 2 cases each were reported.
There are 3,975 confirmed dengue cases in Punjab this year and the bulk of cases are found in Lahore where the total number of cases is 3,145.
The secretary informed that 428 dengue patients were being treated in the province, while 238 were admitted to Lahore hospitals. He urged the people to take extra care in order to prevent the spread of dengue.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department, during the last 24 hours, 135 new dengue cases were reported. The total number of cases in the province has reached 2,795 and four people have so far died of the dengue virus in the province.
Ninety-nine dengue patients are being treated in the KP hospitals
In Peshawar, 38 people were diagnosed with the dengue virus during the past 24 hours. The total number of dengue patients in Peshawar is 803 while in Lower Dir 14; Shangla 12; and in Haripur there are 39 dengue patients.
