Pakistani showbiz industry star and British Asian Trust Ambassador Mahira Khan visited Alleviate Addiction and Suffering in Karachi on World Mental Health Day.
The rehabilitation centre and a non-profit organization in Karachi provide treatment and aftercare to street children and women.
Mahira spent time with the children facing trauma and heard their heart-wrenching stories.
There are a number of children, women, and men battling addiction and abuse of all kinds.
The Humsafar star taking to her Instagram handle shared the whole video and her thoughts saying: “I can’t forget this one boy who had been taking heroin because of his brother who used to sell drugs. This little innocent boy, the same age as my baby boy. I could see the trauma in his eyes.”
“I will never forget the girl who hugged me and cried helplessly. She was also a recovering heroin addict who had been gang raped mercilessly. I couldn’t help but cry with her. I am still so angry that she went through that. It makes my blood boil that those men are roaming around free”.

Khan said she was very grateful for the trust for providing a safe space for victims.
She requested to the public to be kind than ever. “We have no idea what people are going through. Please spread awareness and remove any stigma and shame attached to mental illness. Please donate. Please volunteer. Even going and spending a day with the kids brightens their day”.
Every year on Oct 10th, the World Mental Health Day was the powerful reminder for Pakistan that country needs to continue to talk about mental health, remove the stigma and extend support to everyone, she added.
