DG ISI chairs meeting of int l intelligence agencies’ heads on Afghanistan

Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG) Lt General Faiz Hameed on Saturday chaired a meeting of intelligence chiefs of China, Russia, Iran, and Tajikistan in Islamabad on the Afghanistan situation, reported 24News HD TV channel.

According to the sources, the virtual meeting was convened at the suggestion of DG ISI Faiz Hameed. The meeting was held in Islamabad to discuss ongoing developments in Afghanistan. The sources said that the participants of the meeting exchanged views on the measures needed for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The participants of the meeting discussed the interim government in Afghanistan. They also discussed the differences between Daes and Taliban and its consequences as well as terrorists’ presence on Afghan soil.  

The meeting concluded that leaving Afghan people alone in this difficult time will not be appropriate for Afghanistan and the region as well. The diplomatic source said that Iran and Tajikistan expressed their reservations. They said that the participants of the meeting agreed to make fast efforts for international engagement in warn torn Afghanistan. 

The intelligence agencies chiefs will present their recommendations to their respective countries.  

The ISI DG had visited Afghanistan where he met Afghan leadership in Kabul and discussed different matters recently. The DG also held a meeting with the former premier of Afghanistan Engineer Gulbadin Hikmatyar and discussed the formation of the Afghan government.
