Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial on Wednesday formed a larger Bench of the apex court to hear the case related to curtailing Supreme Court powers in a bill passed by the Parliament two days ago.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, The CJP has fixed the petitions against Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill for hearing in a larger bench tomorrow (Thursday).
The larger bench of the SC will comprise eight judges including the CJP who will lead it himself while a female judge is also included in the bench.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial (HCJ), Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha A Malik, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Shahid Waheed are included in the larger bench.
As per the channel report, the 8-member bench of the SC will hold the hearing tomorrow at 11:30 am.
Yesterday, Advocate Muhammad Shafay Munir filed a constitutional petition under Article 184(3) to “safeguard the Constitution and independence of (the) judiciary” in the SC. The petitioner cited the secretary Ministry of Law and Justice, the secretary Senate, and the secretary of the National Assembly as respondents in his constitutional petition.
