Princess Isabella of Denmark is following in her fashionable mother’s footsteps — quite literally — as she stepped out in a stylish ensemble to kick off her 18th birthday celebrations, borrowing key pieces straight from Queen Mary’s wardrobe.

Celebrations began early on Friday ahead of the royal’s milestone birthday on April 21, with Princess Isabella making a regal impression in a crisp new light blue power suit by Soeren Le Schmidt, a go-to designer for Queen Mary herself.

While the suit was brand new, Isabella incorporated several familiar pieces from her mother’s closet to complete the look. She paired the modern silhouette with a silk blouse from British label The Fold, along with a pair of light brown suede Gianvito Rossi heels — both of which have previously been worn by the Queen.

Adding a touch of royal sparkle, Isabella accessorized with diamond earrings and ornate hair combs from Ellen Hunter, once again borrowing from Queen Mary's impeccable collection.

This fashion exchange is far from one-sided. Just last month, Queen Mary turned heads during a state visit to Finland when she wore a fuchsia double-breasted Dolce & Gabbana coat — the same one Princess Isabella donned for the Nutcracker premiere at Copenhagen’s Tivoli Theatre last November.

The style-sharing duo has long made headlines for their sustainable and sentimental approach to fashion. Over the years, Princess Isabella — the second child of King Frederik X and Queen Mary — has sported several of her mother’s standout looks, including a chic blue Prada coat worn to a church service in Aarhus in January 2023 to mark her father’s ascension to the throne.

Even for her confirmation in 2022, Isabella turned to her mother’s closet, choosing a sophisticated white power suit from Max Mara, once worn by the Queen.

Their shared wardrobe ethos extends beyond practicality — it’s a celebration of legacy, elegance, and a bond between mother and daughter that’s woven into every seam. The Danish royals have long championed sustainable fashion, often recycling their favorite designer pieces for formal occasions.

Queen Mary herself recently revived a striking black lace gown by Jesper Høvring at a gala dinner in Finland, accessorized with royal jewels that hadn’t been seen in over 140 years, including a diadem from 1820 and a bracelet originally crafted for Princess Vilhelmine Marie in 1828.

As Princess Isabella steps into adulthood, she’s proving not only her poise as a future leader — but also her place as a royal fashion icon in the making.
