A strong earthquake struck a number of cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, causing tremors that were felt in Azad Kashmir city of Rawalakot also, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The earthquake of 5.5 magnitude felt in different parts of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tremors were also experienced in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Rawalakot.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tremors were also felt in Peshawar, Mardan, Mohmand, Mansehra, DI Khan and Shabqadar.
However, no immediate report of any casualties or damage was received from any of the affected regions.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), PMD Islamabad, the earthquake occurred at 12:31pm, with a magnitude of 5.5 and a depth of 12 kilometres.
The epicentre was located 60 kilometres northwest of Rawalpindi, at latitude 33.90 N and longitude 72.66 E.
"My building in sector F-11 swayed left and right. People rushed out of their homes," said a resident of Islamabad.
Authorities were assessing the situation and had advised the public to remain calm but alert.
