National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice ® Javed Iqbal has said that the government should introduce amendments to the NAB laws but these amendments should be in the interest of the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing at a function in Lahore on Thursday, the NAB chief said that the anti-graft body always respected the parliamentarians. “We will accept whatever decision the parliament will take,” he added.
Justice ® Javed Iqbal held that the law permitted the NAB to accept the plea bargain deal. He was of the view that if constructive criticism was made, it would be beneficial for the anti-corruption body. He lamented that the body was made subject to unwarranted criticism. “Apart from an allegation of spreading coronavirus, all other kinds of accusations have been levelled against the NAB,” he rued.
The NAB chief was of the view that the anti-graft body never made unsubstantiated cases. But it has to face criticism whenever it files corruption references, he maintained.
Mr Iqbal vowed that the NAB would continue to perform its duty despite all accusations. He said that the NAB was reviewing all references. He held that the NAB could only make references but to decide a case was not in its jurisdiction. He said that the NAB simply files cases in a court of law. He said in a legal evidence, quality was important, not the quantity.
