Police beat back terrorist attack on Mianwali checkposts

The Punjab Police foiled a terrorist attack on its checkposts in Mianwali bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) late Sunday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.


According to the spokesman for the Force, 12 to 13 militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked Qubool Khan and other checkposts late Sunday night.


Giving further details, he said that the attackers started firing at the checkposts indiscriminately.


“However, due to swift response given by the police personnel deployed at these posts, the militants had to retreat and flee,” he explained.


The spokesman said that soon after learning about the attack, DPO Mianwali reached the site of the incident while the manhunt for the arrest of assailants had begun.


He informed that security was on a high alert in the area.


Punjab CM, IGP praise police’s response


Paying rich tributes to the police personnel for repulsing an attack on its checkposts, Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi said that the cops demonstrated exemplary courage. “I am proud of jawans of the Punjab Police,” the chief minister said, adding, “They are the nation’s heroes.”


At the same time, he went on to say, he saluted the DPO for overseeing the operation against terrorists.


CM Naqvi expressed his government’s resolve to always encourage brave personnel of the Punjab Police.


On the other hand, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar praised the police personnel for their timely response which resulted in the retreat of militants. “The cops deployed at the province’s checkposts bordering other provinces are the soldiers who are on the frontline in the war against terrorism,” he said, adding, “Punjab Police’s jawans have always preferred death to surrender before the terrorists.”


The IGP expressed the resolve that the Force will never allow anti-state elements to succeed in their nefarious designs.
