A high-profile Pakistani business delegation arrived in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Sunday.
The Pakistani delegation led by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce Industry (FPCCI) Atif Ikram Sheikh called on Bangladesh’s adviser on trade Sheikh Bashir Uddin. Mutual trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh, easing visa restrictions, resumption of direct flights between the two countries and future investment in each other’s country came under discussion at the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Bashir said that measures have already been taken to enhance trade with Pakistan. Keeping in view the size of the population of the two countries, he said, the volume of trade between the two countries is still far less than what it should be. He said that both the countries have the potential to increase the bilateral trade and this potential should be tapped. He said that Pakistani traders should enhance their contacts with their Bangladeshi counterparts.
The FPCCI president said that Pakistani traders want to increase their trade with the Bangladeshi traders. He said that a complicated visa policy and unavailability of direct flights between the two countries are affecting the volume of trade between the countries. He said that Pakistani traders are taking interest in Bangladesh’s agriculture production, marketing, education and tourism sectors.
